THE NEW STUDIO SCHOOL, KNOWN AS THE ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL (IKB) STUDIO SCHOOL DELIVERS BOTH ACADEMIC AND VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS THROUGH PROJECT-BASED WORK FOR STUDENTS ENTERING IN YEARS 10 AND 12.
With a focus on specialised STE M components (science, engineering, technology and mathematics) it is an intimate small school for 300 students with year-round opening and a 9-5 working day, feeling more like a workplace than a school.
Project based learning is key to the success of the studio school model. AHR has designed the building so that it allows for students to learn in a variety of different environments – traditional class based teaching, group work, individual study, lectures, active participation, design critique, digital and physical modelling. The building provides this flexibility with spaces that can blend into different uses.
