A central station hub in Liverpool set to improve the passenger experience and boost the local economy
by AHR
We are very proud to have contributed to the development of Liverpool Central Station, in the heart of city. Appointed as sub consultants by Arup, we provided architectural services for the station's redevelopment to GRIP stage 3.
A key design objective for this regeneration project was to create a sustainable transport hub that will be a welcoming environment for passengers, unlock Liverpool’s potential for economic growth and foster positive social and environmental change.
Our plans included the redevelopment of Liverpool central station, creating a new main entrance and station plaza, improving access and visibility from Ranelagh Street.Prioritising passenger comfort, convenience and peace of mind, the station will offer an enhanced customer experience. This includes relaxing waiting areas, diverse food and drink options and ample cycling spaces to promote more sustainable travel. Additionally, the station will feature retail outlets, further enriching the overall passenger experience.
Recognising the lack of green space in Liverpool city centre, our design proposals incorporated green areas to enhance the urban landscape and promote health and wellbeing for passengers and visitors alike. These spaces can be enjoyed while waiting for a train or simply for a relaxing break outdoors.
Additionally, with the project comes the potential of a high-speed link between Liverpool and Manchester. This means that travellers may be able to travel to Manchester Airport from Liverpool in just 25 minutes.
Connectivity within Liverpool will also be strengthened, with the possibility of a tunnel linking the station to Liverpool Lime Street and other key areas like the Knowledge Quarter, Church Street and other popular retail spots.
This significant infrastructure upgrade will be a catalyst for economic growth and community development, promising a brighter future for Liverpool and its residents.
