An insightful few days welcoming two work experience students to our Glasgow office
by AHR
Our Glasgow office recently welcomed two enthusiastic work experience students to spend a few days getting a taste of what it’s like to work in our dynamic practice.
We are passionate about sharing our knowledge and enjoy welcoming students into our practice, offering them hands-on experience and mentorship opportunities that foster their professional growth and inspire the next generation of architects.
What did they get up to?
During their work experience at our practice, the two students were given the exciting task of designing a house based on a specific brief.
The students were assigned a specific plot size to guide their design decisions. They also had to research the designated location, considering the surrounding area to determine the best placement and type of house suitable for the environment. This research was crucial in understanding local architectural styles and community needs.
A key aspect of the project involved selecting appropriate materials for the house, making sure their choices aligned with both aesthetic and functional requirements. Using SketchUp, the students brought their designs to life in a digital format, which then enabled them to create a detailed physical model.
On the final day of their work experience, the students presented their designs to the office. This included an explanation of their design choices and the inspiration behind them. The session concluded with valuable feedback and suggestions from our team.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience for the students, leaving the two inspired and interested in following a career path in architecture.
