Welcome to the AHR podcast series, where we engage in captivating conversations about the built environment and its influence on shaping a more positive future.

In this episode, we come together to discuss the evermore pressing need to re-evaluate the NHS estate to deliver an efficient and sustainable healthcare service. Part of our healthcare team and podcast host, Robert Simcox, is joined by healthcare sector lead, Gareth Banks and associate director, Victoria Shepherdson.

Vicki shares innovative strategies she has used to maximise the potential of the sites she has worked on, and how we can use technology to advance the services provided.

Gareth highlights the need to think creatively about future proof adaptations and making use of the commercial opportunities available to attract patients and staff alike to these spaces.

We consider the challenges of balancing the cost of reuse against the investment needed to make spaces fit for purpose.

In this episode, we refer to a few technical abbreviations. For those who may be unfamiliar with these we have defined them below:

PFI - Private Funding Initiative

EUDs - End User Devices

M and E – Mechanical and Electrical

MEP servicing – Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing servicing
