We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Nuala as she reached the end of her work placement as part of the RIBA AHR Scholarship 2023.

Nuala undertook her work placement at the Bristol office, under the guidance of her mentors Gary and Hira.

The RIBA AHR Scholarship supports students from low-income households with a four-week paid work placement, mentoring and £7,000 to assist with course and living costs throughout their Part II studies.

Since the placement, Nuala’s industry knowledge, skills and confidence have grown exponentially having gained an insight into the workings of an architectural practice.

She kindly sat down with us to tell us how the work placement was going, revealing what she’s been enjoying the most so far, the types of projects she’s supporting the team with as well as advice for anyone thinking of applying for the scholarship.

Gaining invaluable work experience

We’ve been incredibly impressed with Nuala’s growth over the course of her placement. From day one, she approached every task with enthusiasm and a desire to learn. It’s been rewarding to see her develop both her technical skills and confidence and I have no doubt she will continue to excel in her studies and beyond.”

Looking ahead, Nuala is excited to return to university, where she will apply her newly acquired skills, knowledge and confidence to her work.

We wish Nuala the best in everything she takes on and look forward to hearing from her soon. Keep an eye out for regular progress updates across our social media channels.
