New, 1,070-place secondary school in Cornwall gets the green light
by AHR
We're pleased to announce that Perranporth Academy in Cornwall has been granted planning approval, bringing modern, high quality educational facilities to support the area's growing families.
Ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive
Set to welcome its first students at the beginning of the 2026 / 2027 academic year, Perranporth Academy will transform the educational landscape for the community. The new school, to be run by Truro and Penwith Academy Trust (TPAT), will cater for 1,050 students aged 11 to 16 across key stages 3 and 4, offering a varied curriculum designed to inspire and engage young minds.
In addition, the school will include a special educational needs department, which will provide individualised support and a nurturing environment for 20 students with complex and severe learning difficulties.
For an enriching and enjoyable learning experience, the 8,125 m2 single school building will be complete with a multi-use games area and all-weather pitch.
A varied and thorough curriculum for success
All students will be engaged in a broad, well-sequenced curriculum that not only emphasises core academic subjects but also offers extensive extracurricular opportunities, including the successful ‘Be Inspired’ program run in other TPAT secondary schools.
Helping to raise aspirations and address educational disadvantages in the local community, the school will immerse students in an exciting learning process while providing career guidance in STEM professions,
With sustainability at its core, the new school building is targeting net zero carbon in operation. To generate its own electricity, our design also incorporates extensive photovoltaic panels and highly efficient air source heat pumps to heat the building.
Alongside the new building and sports facilities, the project embraces the unique sloping landscape to offer educational habitat areas. These areas will enhance the site’s biodiversity, providing students a chance to learn within a rich, natural environment.
To enhance the ecological value of the site for future generations, our landscape designers are carefully preserving the natural beauty of the local area while successfully increasing biodiversity by 10%.
We look forward to sharing more details of this project as it progresses. In the meantime, stay up to date with all our latest projects news and updates by following us on LinkedIn, Instagram and X.
