A vision rooted in collaboration: Reflecting on the project journey with our clients
by AHR
The UK’s largest Passivhaus education building, Woodmill and St Columba’s RC High School inspires exceptional learning and nurtures future talent.
Sitting within the Dunfermline Learning Campus masterplan, the building brings together two schools, Woodmill High School and St Columba’s RC High School, into one building, but operationally separate and retaining their own identities.
Stuart Bryson recently had the opportunity to invite Programme Manager Paul Gallacher and Lead Architect John Peden of Fife Council back to the school to discuss and reflect on the successful collaborative approach behind the project, including key lessons learned along the way.
Reminiscing, Paul says,
It’s a lovely place to be when you’ve got confidence in the people you work with outside of your organisation, and I think that speaks volumes. AHR is my first choice because we work so well together.
Watch below to discover how collaboration shaped this project’s vision.
A shared vision
Our client, Fife Council’s, strategic design brief was to shape a building that incorporates two schools on a shared campus. The schools were to complement each other and be easily manageable to provide an excellent social, teaching and learning environment.
The nature of a joint campus provides many unique opportunities, including for the ways the wider community can use and benefit from the many new learning spaces.
Highlighting the council’s commitment to sustainable educational design, pupils and staff are thriving in their environmentally forward-thinking facility—an inspiring space that supports learning now and in the future.
Did you know that the school was also met with overwhelming positivity from pupils and teachers alike when welcomed its first cohort of pupils in the autumn.
As they embraced the new, modern facilities, the essence of this learning environment came to life through the voices of those who benefit from it.
