Holy Trinity Academy

Telford, UK

project overview

Supporting the school’s long-term decarbonisation goals

To support Holy Trinity Academy in reducing its carbon impact, we were appointed as lead consultant, contract administrator and Principal Designer for CDM, under our longstanding relationship with the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

The mixed school in Telford, which accommodates 900 students, aged 11 – 19, now benefits from a solar panel control system incorporated with the existing network, helping to lower energy costs and contribute to a more energy-efficient future.

Detailed reports of the school’s energy consumption data in relation to available sunlight hours revealed that the installation of batteries as part of this system would be necessary to effectively cover running costs in the future.

To ensure that the new solar panel system adequately meets the needs of the school throughout the year, the £150k project involved the installation of PV panels and Tesla Powerwall batteries to an allocated 900m² roof space on the main school block.

The Powerwall battery covers the school’s energy load during non-daylight hours by storing excess solar energy generated during the day. This energy is then available to use as required and is protected from power outages.

We managed the progress of the works throughout, collaborating with contractor, Griff Services, to successfully deliver these works in line with the school budget, with minimal disruption to teaching and learning.
