The Mannings
Shoreham-by-Sea, UK
Project Overview
Community led redevelopment of worn apartment building creates welcoming, appealing homes
Our redevelopment of The Mannings sets a new standard of living in the local area with the replacement of an existing, aged apartment building. The new affordable apartments enhance the surrounding public realm, enabling the neighbourhood to flourish.
The site once housed a dated building with poor heating and ventilation and the surrounding community was unhappy with the standard of living. We have created a new space that captures the essence of the surrounding conservation area and has left locals feeling proud of their homes.
A double-height portico creates a welcoming entryway, with a colour palette that mirrors the neighbouring harbour. Recessed balconies extend the living space between indoor and outdoor, whilst being protected from the natural elements. Communal rooftop gardens promote the health and wellbeing of the people living here with specially selected plants, native to the local area.
Engaging with the local communities allowed us to design not just a new building but ideal and desirable future homes for the community.
